M.R.M.T.C. Artificial Reef Fund
The Manasquan River Marlin and Tuna Clubs Artificial Reef Fund was established in the fall of 2001. Our continuing mission is to create new marine habitat to enhance our local recreational fishery. This process is financed through various fundraising activities and additional donations by our members.
Members help our Artificial Reef Fund to grow by participating in the annual Jack Meyer Memorial Offshore Trolling Tournament, the annual Fire Cracker Offshore Open and the newly established Artificial Reef Tournament. By fishing in one or all of the previously mentioned club sponsored events, participants can feel proud that they are doing their share, as part or all of the proceeds from these tournaments build our Artificial Reef Fund.
Once a sufficient monetary amount is established in the M.R.M.T.C.s Artificial Reef Fund to support a project, the fundraising dollars and their donations are used to purchase, transport, and place dense materials such as old ships, concrete pipe, steel demolition or dredge rock to name a few, on one of three state approved artificial reef sites local to the Manasquan River. These include the Sea Girt, Axel Carlson, and Shark River artificial reefs. |
